MAAC Prepares for 1st Conference Championships since March 2020 with Cross Country Championship
EDISON, N.J. (Feb. 24, 2021) - The 2020/21 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be hosted on March 5, 2021 at the Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. The championships are sponsored by the Atlantic City Sports Commission which develop site options for the conference earlier this year and is providing volunteers and related support to the event. The last conference championship to be completed was the Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor Championship on Feb. 23, 2020. The MAAC was in the midst of conducting its annual Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall last year when NCAA and most other organized sports were shut down on March 12 because of the growing health threat by the COVID-19 virus.
"The Atlantic City Sports Commission is thrilled to be hosting both the MAAC and America East Cross Country Championships here at the Seaview Golf Course in Atlantic County," Atlantic City Sports Commission Director Daniel Gallagher said. "Seaview's world-class course, in partnership with the MAAC's and America East's spirited professionalism and athletic acumen make it a perfect pairing."
The America East will be conducting their Cross Country Championships at Seaview Golf Club following the completion of the MAAC Cross Country Championships.
“It’s great to be returning to the business of conducting NCAA Division I sports championships,” note MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “We are pleased to bring business activity to the Seaview Hotel and Golf Club as the region anticipates a return of major sports events including the upcoming basketball champions March 9-13 in Atlantic City. I’m pleased that both the America East and MAAC can cooperate in the use of the Seaview race setup as both conferences have New Jersey schools. “
As COVID-19 has created challenges for intercollegiate athletics, the MAAC has implemented COVID-19 risk mitigation strategies, including appropriate testing. COVID Protocols for the Cross Country Championships include:
- Teams to be tested 72 hours before arriving
- Provide attestation forms
- Participants will be masked at all times except when competing. All championship personnel that aren’t competing such as coaches, volunteers, and MAAC staff will be masked at all times.
- Social distancing will be followed at all times except during competition.
