Fairfield’s Salameno and Albany’s Thornton Named Levy Recognition MAAC Golf Weekly Award Winners

Men’s Golfer of the Week
 Jason Salameno, Fairfield
Jr., Pompton Lakes, NJ / Bergen Catholic
Jason Salameno won the Peacock Invitational as the only golfer in an 80-man field to shoot under par with a 69 (-1) at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, N.J. Salameno led Fairfield to a tie for second place on the team leaderboard, topping the five other MAAC teams in the field.
 
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Amber Thornton, Albany
Fr., Canberra, Australia/ St. Mary MackKillop College Canberra
Thornton led the Great Danes in her first collegiate outing, shooting 152 (+8) through 36 holes at the Low Country Intercollegiate Invitational in South Carolina. The freshman finished in a tie for 24th place among 80 total golfers. Thornton sank four birdies her first round for a score of 78 (+6), following up that performance with three birdies for a score of 74 (+2). The Great Danes finished the weekend in 14th place out of 16 teams.
