Marist College Chosen as Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Favorite, Joe Tierney Earns Preseason Player of the Year Honors
EDISON, N.J. (Mar. 3, 2021) - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced Wednesday that Marist College has been voted as the 2021 MAAC men’s lacrosse preseason favorite. Marist senior midfielder Joe Tierney was chosen as the 2021 Preseason Player of the Year.
Marist, the defending MAAC champions, received 63 points to top the preseason poll, along with seven of the eight first-place votes. The Red Foxes (10-7, 6-1 MAAC) secured the program’s third MAAC Championship in 2019 following a 15-14 victory over second-seeded Quinnipiac University in the title game.
The University of Detroit Mercy ranks second with 53 points, earning one first-place vote. The Titans led the conference with five players on the Preseason All-MAAC Team, including the lone unanimous selection, Paul Manuszak.
Rounding out the top five are Monmouth University (40 Pts), Quinnipiac (38) and Manhattan College (32).
Joe Tierney ranked third in goals (19) and assists (12) for Marist in the 2019 season. At the 2019 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, Tierney scored seven goals on his way to being named the MAAC Most Outstanding Player of the Championship. He was also named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s (USILA) Team of the Week for the week of May 6, 2019.
