Marist Wins the 2021 MAAC Esports Overwatch Championship for the Second Straight Year
Edison, N.J. (March 21, 2021) – Marist College defeated Saint Peter’s University 3-1 to claim back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Overwatch Championships. This was the third and final championship to be completed at the 2021 MAAC Esports Championships.
The title marks the last of the 2021 MAAC Esports Championships and the second MAAC Overwatch Championship in history.
Marist claimed two of three titles in this year’s championships, winning in Overwatch and Rocket League. The Red Foxes lost in the semifinals of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bracket.
Marist’s trip to the grand finals began with a 3-0 win over Siena College. The Red Foxes completed another dominant 3-0 victory over Rider University in the semifinals to advance to the championship against Saint Peter’s for a second straight year. Saint Peter’s swept Fairfield University in the first round to reach the semifinals where they beat Quinnipiac University 3-0 to reach the championship round.
