Siena Wins Back-to-Back MAAC Esports Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Championship
Edison, N.J. (March 21, 2020) – Siena College defeated Quinnipiac University 16-14 to claim their second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Championship. The championship was the second to be completed of the 2021 MAAC Esports Championships. Siena was able to come back in the last game to knock off the Bobcats, who came into the tournament as the number one seed.

The second seeded Saints began their run to the grand finals with a dominating 22-7 win over Manhattan College on Saturday afternoon. From there, the second seeded Saints held off Saint Peter’s University 18-12 in the semifinals for the second straight season to move on to the final championship matchup against No. 1 seeded Quinnipiac.
The grand finals win was the closest of any game throughout the day, coming down to last game with Siena pulling through on their last life.
Quinnipiac University’s run to the championship series began with a dominant 23-1 win over No. 8 Fairfield University. The Bobcats, ranked first, were forced to play back-to-back, taking on No. 4 Marist College in the semifinals in the very next game. Quinnipiac was able to come back against Marist in the semifinals scoring 14 points in their final three bouts to secure a spot in the championship game.
