Rider’s Gonzalez and Monmouth’s Irons, Thuer Named Rawlings MAAC Softball Weekly Award Winners
Player of the Week
Elena Gonzalez, Rider
RFr., Ashburn, VA /Stone Bridge
A redshirt freshman, Gonzalez hit .538 (7-for-13) with two doubles, a triple, seven RBI's, four runs scored and a stolen base as the Broncs took 3-of-4 from Quinnipiac this weekend. She also walked three times and posted a .625 on-base percentage. She hit safely in all four games, including a 3-for-4 effort with a triple, two RBI's and two runs scored in a Game 2 win Saturday. She peppered the center field fence with a pair of doubles and three RBI's in Game 1 on Sunday, before adding another hit, RBI and run scored in Game 2 on Sunday.
Pitcher of the Week
Alyssa Irons, Monmouth
Sr., Rock Creek, OH/ Jefferson Area
Irons went 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in Monmouth's opening weekend. In the win over Canisius on Saturday, she tossed all nine innings with seven strikeouts. On Sunday, she pitched 12 total innings with 11 strikeouts, picking up the win in both.
Rookie of the Week
Julia Thuer, Monmouth
Fr., Middletown, DE/ Smyrna
In her first four career games, Thuer went 5-for-14 (.385) with four RBI. The freshman picked up three hits, including a walk-off home run in Monmouth's win over Canisius on Saturday. In game two on Sunday, she went 2-for-3 with two runs and registered a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the 7th inning.
