Marist (18-4) came out of the gate strong leading the No. 2 seed Louisville (24-3) after the first quarter. The hot start wasn’t enough as the Cardinals applied their defensive pressure to take the first-round matchup.  No. 2 Louisville advances to play No. 7 Northwestern University in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament.

 Louisville Notes:
• Hailey Van Lith led the way for Louisville with a game high 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting. The freshman also chipped in with four assists in 27 minutes played.
• Senior guard Dana Evans finished the game with 15 points. The ACC Player of the Year and AP First Team All-American was 6 of 16 from the field and 1 of 8 from 3-point range.
•The Cardinals led the Red Foxes 24 to 11 in bench points. Ahlana Smith led the way for Louisville’s bench with seven points, three rebounds and two assists.
• The Cardinals forced 22 turnovers which resulted in 27 points off those turnovers.
• Louisville used a 22 to 1 run in the third quarter to bring the game out of reach for Marist.
•The Cardinals held the Red Foxes to a season low 43 points in the victory.
 
Marist Notes:
 • The Red Foxes were led by Junior guard Sarah Barcello, who had a team-high eight points to go along with five rebounds in 27 minutes played. Allie Best finished second on the team with seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
• Senior Willow Duffell battled foul trouble most of the evening, finishing with six points, eight rebounds and four assists.  
• Marist led the game 15-12 after the first quarter and lead for over 16 minutes of the first half.
• Closing out the first half, Marist didn’t score a field goal over the last four minutes of the first half.
• Marist outrebounded Louisville 41 to 39 in the game. This led to Red Foxes finishing with 11 second chance points.
 
Next Up:
 No. 2 Louisville advances to play No. 7 Northwestern University in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament. The Red Foxes finish the season at 18-4.
