MAAC Announces Schedule, Broadcasting Details for 2021 MAAC Volleyball Championship
EDISON, NJ (Mar. 24, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today the full schedule and broadcasting details for the 2021 MAAC Volleyball Championship.
The eight-team championship will take place at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, NY over the course of three days. The championship kicks off on Thursday, April 1 with four quarterfinal games throughout the day. Both semifinal games are scheduled for Friday, April 2. The 2021 MAAC Volleyball Championship Game will take place Saturday, April 3 at 4 p.m. EST.
No fans will be admitted to the championship which is being held in the spring this year in a COVID-19 truncated season.
The Albany Capital Center opened its doors to the public on March 1, 2017 and has hosted many events, including a MAAC Esports Showcase in 2018 and the recent NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Regional Championship. This will be the first NCAA Division I conference championship hosted by the state-of-the-art facility. The center is connected by an indoor walkway to the Renaissance Albany Hotel which will serve as the headquarter hotel for the championships with teams having all meals and being housed in a manner consistent with NCAA COVID-19 protocols.
MAAC championships are not new to Albany which has hosted 20 MAAC basketball tournaments at the Times Union Center, and with Siena College and the MAAC securing many NCAA championships for the region.
Fairfield University is the defending volleyball champion and has dominated the sport within the MAAC, having won four of the last five championships with the lone exception being 2018 when Iona College took home the trophy.
All games will be broadcasted live on ESPN+. A.J. Kanell will handle the play-by-play call for the broadcasts and Lauren Eads will serve as the color analyst for the tournament.
