Saint Peter's Volleyball Cancels Remainder of 2020-21 Season
JERSEY CITY, NJ – In accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols and in the best interest of the health and well-being of student-athletes, coaches and staff, the Saint Peter's University women's volleyball program will not compete for the remainder of the 2020-21 spring season.
Due to COVID-related issues, the Peacocks' final series of the regular season -- which was scheduled for Friday, March 26, at Rider -- has been cancelled. Given the timing and the circumstances of having to have played a compressed regular season in a five-week span, the team does not have the ability to make up this Friday's doubleheader or any of the previously postponed matches up until this point.
The Peacocks will also not be competing in the 2020-21 MAAC Women's Volleyball Championship in Albany, NY which is scheduled to commence next weekend (April 1-3).
"We are obviously disappointed we were not able to compete this season but we felt it was the best decision for the safety of all those involved," said head women's volleyball coach
Joe Chojnacki. "I am sorry for our seniors Karla Seda, Wildalys Soto, Yaidelis Lopez-Jimenez and Imani Spicer who were not able to play in their final season. All four of them have made a significant impact on this program and I cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication. These four young ladies exhibit the qualities every coach looks for and I wish them well in their next steps in life. On the positive side we were at least able to have a solid month of practices in February and that should serve us well for the coming fall season. I look forward to our future and continuing to change the culture here at St. Peter's."
