Fairfield Clinches 2020-21 MAAC Volleyball Regular Season Title

EDISON, N.J. (Mar. 28, 2021) – Fairfield University (9-1) clinched the 2020-21 MAAC Volleyball regular season title today following their victory against Quinnipiac University (3-4) in the first game of a doubleheader. This marks the Stags’ 19th MAAC Regular Season Championship, and the first time they have earned back-to-back regular season titles since winning three straight from 2015-17.
 
As regular season champions, the Stags will face the eighth-seeded team in the quarterfinals of the 2020-21 MAAC Volleyball Championship at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 1 at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, NY.

The Stags began game one of their Sunday doubleheader with a setback, dropping the first set, 25-15. Fairfield would rebound and tie the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. Quinnipiac and Fairfield would then exchange set victories in the third (25-20) and fourth sets (25-16), respectively, to force a fifth set. An early surge for the Stags proved to be the difference, as they would go on to win the final set, 15-9, as well as the match and the MAAC regular season title.

Emily Schillinger led Fairfield in kills for the game with 18, while Georgia Via topped the team in digs (30). Manuela Nicolini, the MAAC 2020-21 Preseason Player of the Year, tallied 50 of Fairfield’s 62 assists for the game.
 
The 2020-21 MAAC Volleyball Championship will take place April 1-3, 2021 at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, NY. The championship kicks off with four quarterfinal games throughout the day on Thursday, April 1. Both semifinal games are scheduled for Friday, April 2. The 2021 MAAC Volleyball Championship Game will take place Saturday, April 3 at 4 p.m. EST. All games will be broadcasted live on ESPN+.

No fans will be admitted to the championship which is being held in the spring this year in a COVID-19 truncated season.
