Iona Claims 30th-Straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship

GALLOWAY, N.J. (Mar. 5, 2021) – Iona College earned its NCAA record 30th-straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship this Friday at the Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. The Gaels were paced by Jack O’Leary, the 2020-21 Male Most Outstanding Runner, who ran a 24:28.10 over the 8K course.
  
Iona swept with a perfect score of 15 to take home the title. O’Leary was followed by teammates Jamie Dee (24:28.14), Ehab El-Sandali (24:28.19), Joshua DeSouza (24:36.65), and Campbell Lee (24:36.66) to round out the top five.
 
The 2021 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year is Lachlan Wellington from Iona. Wellington finished with a time of 24:51.81 placing ninth overall.
 
Along with Wellington the MAAC All-Rookie team is Matt Rankin (25:36.29) of Iona, Nick Soldevere (25:52.96) of Iona, Sebastien Reed (25:59.33) of Monmouth, and Killian McNamee (26:08.99) of Siena.
 
Postseason competition continues on March 15 for the NCAA Division I Championship at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma with Oklahoma State University serving as host.
