Iona Claims Fifth-Straight MAAC Women's Cross Country Championship

GALLOWAY, N.J. (Mar. 5, 2021) – Iona College earned its fifth-straight MAAC Women’s Cross Country Championship this Friday at the Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. The Gaels were paced by Gemma Nuttall, the 2020-21 Women’s Most Outstanding Runner, who ran a 21:43.93 over the 6K course.
 
Iona swept the top three positions to take home the title. Nuttall was followed by her teammates Kaitlyn Ohrtman (21:48.23) and Holly Smith.
 
The 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year is Holly Smith from Iona. Smith finished with a time of 21:55.24 placing third overall.
 
Along with Smith, the MAAC All-Rookie team is Liv DiStefano of Quinnipiac (22:08.32), Allie Pierontoni of Monmouth (22:15.70), Delia McDade Clay of Siena (22:17.46), Cara Du Preez of Iona (22:24.29), and Katie Locker of Monmouth (22:36.05).
 
Postseason competition continues on March 15 for the NCAA Division I Championship at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma with Oklahoma State University serving as host.
