Siena and Monmouth Headed to MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game

An 80th minute goal by Niamh Cashin brought Rider University (4-2-2, 3-1-2 MAAC) to within one goal heading into the game’s final stretch, but Siena College’s defense was able to hold off the Broncs’ comeback attempt and hang on with a 2-1 victory. Siena (6-0-1, 4-0-1), the conference’s only remaining unbeaten team, advances to the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game for the second time in the past three seasons, and their third since 2015. As the top seed, the Saints will host their first-ever MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game, as they welcome Monmouth University to Hickey Field on Friday, April 16. Game time is to be determined. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
Siena Notes
- Siena returns to the MAAC Championship Game for the first time since 2018, where they fell to Monmouth. Siena was the last team to win the MAAC Championship (2015) prior to Monmouth’s current title run.
- Following today’s game, Siena has outscored their opponents by a margin of 18-3.
- Jayanna Monds’ game-winning goal in the 75th minute was her second of the MAAC Championship and her third of the season.
- The game’s opening goal was scored by Carrie Krohn at the 13-minute mark. It was her first since March 25, when she found the back of the net twice against Iona. Krohn also provided the assist on Monds’ game-winner.
- Additional assists were recorded by Annie Bagnall, Emily McNelis, and Rachel Sullivan.
- Goaltender Leslie Adams made all three of her saves for Siena in the second half.
- Siena outshot Rider for the game, 13-11.
Rider Notes
- Cashin’s goal was her first of the 2020-21 season. She was also the team leader in shots on goal (2).
- Camryn Dees provided the lone assist for Rider.
- Cashin, Dees, Hannah Freeman, and Makenzie Rodrigues all recorded two shots on the day, tied for the team lead.
- Rider led the second half in shots (8-5) and in corner kicks (3-2).

After opening the game’s scoring in their quarterfinal match vs. Niagara, Lauren Karabin tallied the opening goal once again as she helped No. 3 Monmouth University (5-1-2, 3-1-2 MAAC) to a 2-0 victory over No. 2 Quinnipiac University (5-2-1, 4-1-1) in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Semifinals. An insurance goal from Alexa Correa in the 87th minute to make it a two-goal game helped seal the victory for the Hawks. With the win, Monmouth advances to the championship game for the fifth consecutive season, and for the sixth time since 2013. They will hit the road to take on top-seeded Siena in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game on Friday, April 16. Game time is to be determined. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
Monmouth Notes
- Monmouth has not lost a game in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship since Nov. 6, 2015, when they fell to Siena in the semifinal round. Since then, the Hawks have won 11 straight MAAC Championship games.
- Monmouth seeks to be the first team since Loyola (2000-2004) to win five consecutive MAAC Championships.
- Karabin’s goal was her third on the season and her second goal of the MAAC Championship. In four career MAAC Championship games, she has collected five goals and one assist.
- Correa’s goal was her first of the 2020-21 season. Karabin was credited with the assist.
- Chloe Ferreria was awarded the assist on Karabin’s goal, the first assist of her career.
- Goalkeeper Rebecca Winslow recorded three saves to earn her third career shutout.
- Monmouth had the advantage over Quinnipiac in shots (14-8) and shots on goal (10-3).
- Monmouth extends their lead in the all-time series against Quinnipiac to 18-8-2.

- Quinnipiac netminder Sofia Lospinoso recorded a season-high eight saves.
- Markela Bejleri, Fleur Cordier, and Olivia Kudrikow each recorded one of the Bobcats' three shots on goal.
- Rebecca Cooke led the team with three shots.
