Niagara’s Alonso and Quinnipiac’s Koscielski Named Hercules Tire MAAC Tennis Weekly Award Winners

Men’s Player of the Week
Manuel Alonso, Niagara

Manuel Alonso went 2-0 in No. 1 singles and split a pair of No. 1 doubles matches last week as the Purple Eagles went 1-1 against No. 48 Northern Illinois and Queens College (NY). Alonso defeated NIU’s Mikko Malinen to earn Niagara a win in singles, 6-2, 6-7(4), 1-0 (10-5). Against Queens, Alonso bounced back from losing the first set, 6-4, to win the next two sets, 7-5, 6-3, to clinch the match. Alonso and doubles partner Jorge Sedeno won their match 7-6(5) for their team-leading fourth win.
 
Women’s Player of the Week
Claire Koscielski, Quinnipiac
So., Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral High School
 
Koscielski was a perfect 3-0 this week for the Bobcats at No. 1 singles, while also earning a doubles win to record four total victories. She first defeated Providence's Migliorini on Wednesday in a non-conference match (6-2, 6-3). Koscielski then won twice at No. 1 singles in MAAC play over the weekend, besting Brown of Siena (6-2, 6-2) and Sporka of Monmouth (6-2, 6-0). Koscielski is now 8-2 in singles matches this season.
