2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game
Hickey Field | Loudonville, NY
Following a scoreless 90 minutes and two overtime periods, the 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game required penalty kicks to break a scoreless tie and crown a champion. It was two critical stops by goalkeeper Leslie Adams that helped the No. 1 Siena Saints (6-0-2, 4-0-1 MAAC) defeat No. 3 Monmouth University (5-1-3, 3-1-2 MAAC) in penalty kicks, 4-2, and capture the 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship.
For Siena, who were projected to finish eighth in the 2020-21 MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, this marks their third MAAC Championship in program history (2010, 2015, 2020-21), all under the leadership of head coach Steve Karbowski.
Following the game, Siena midfielder Emily McNelis was named the 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship MVP. McNelis scored the championship-clinching goal in penalty kicks, and contributed an assist in Siena’s semifinal victory against Rider.
The Saints now await their opponent in the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. Their matchup, as well as the complete bracket, will be announced in the NCAA selection show on Monday, Apr. 19, at 1 p.m. on NCAA.com.
