Manhattan’s Chiorazzi and Iona’s Zazzaro and Sheeran Earn Rawlings MAAC Softball Weekly Award Winners
Pitcher of the Week
Kara Zazzaro, Iona
Jr., Southington, CT/Southington
Zazzaro appeared in five games for Iona, winning four and earning the save in another. The junior pitched to a 1.70 ERA with 31 strikeouts across 24.2 innings pitched. Her first start of the week was a complete-game shutout at Quinnipiac, her first of the season. Her last outing was in relief, where she closed the door on Rider to notch her first save of 2021.
Player of the Week
Daniela Chiorazzi, Manhattan
Sr., Stony Point, NY/North Rockland
Had a huge week, batting .500 (6-of-12) with four home runs, 10 RBI, six runs, three walks and a stolen base over four games at Niagara. Slugged a ridiculous 1.500 thanks to a pair of multi-homer games. Began her big week by going 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs in the Jaspers' series-opening victory. Drew a walk and scored a run in the nightcap. Began Sunday's doubleheader by going 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, three runs and a stolen base in a Manhattan win. Capped her big week by walking twice in the finale. On the year, is hitting .282 with a double, triple, four home runs and 12 RBI.
Rookie of the Week
Jamie Sheeran, Iona
Fr., Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial
Freshman Jamie Sheeran started five games for Iona this week, driving in 10 runs in the Gaels' five wins. Sheeran registered a hit in all five contests, including a pair of homers and three doubles. The rookie slashed .300/.300/.750 across her 20 plate appearances.
