2021 MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship Field is Set
EDISON, NJ – The 2021 Women’s Tennis Championship field and seedings are confirmed. Heading to the MAAC Championship in West Windsor, New Jersey is the top seed Quinnipiac University (8-4, 6-0 MAAC), second-seeded Fairfield University (5-7, 3-2 MAAC), third-seeded Siena College (5-3, 3-2 MAAC) and fourth-seeded Niagara University (4-7, 2-4). The opening round of the championship is set for Saturday, April 24 at the Mercer County Tennis Center.
Quinnipiac enters the 2021 Women’s Tennis Championship as the No. 1 seed for the seventh-straight tournament. The Bobcats have won five MAAC titles in the past six tournaments and have only suffered one MAAC loss since 2014. Quinnipiac has won 49 consecutive regular season MAAC matches and is 60-1 all-time since joining the MAAC.
Fairfield finished the season 3-2 in the MAAC and earned the second seed as they hold the tiebreaker over Siena with their regular season victory over the Saints, 5-2 on April 11. Fairfield will be looking to defend their 2019 MAAC Title after they became the first MAAC team to defeat Quinnipiac in the championship tournament when they upset the No. 1 seed 4-3.
Siena earned the third seed after finishing the season 3-2 in MAAC play. The Saints will be making their fifth straight postseason appearance and are seeking their first MAAC title since 2006. Siena enters the tournament winning their last three matches by a combined score of 17-4.
Niagara earned the fourth and final seed in the tournament after holding the tiebreaker over Monmouth with their win over the Hawks in the regular season, 5-2 on April 4. Niagara makes its first postseason appearance since 2018 and will be seeking their first title since 2005.
The 2021 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Championship will be held at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. Semifinal action begins Saturday, April 24 with No. 1 Quinnipiac taking on No. 4 Niagara and No. 2 Fairfield taking on No. 3 Siena. Both women’s semifinal matches are set to start at 2:00 p.m. The finals will take place the day after, April 25, with the women’s match, beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the men’s match starting at 10:00 a.m. For more information on the 2021 MAAC Tennis Championships, visit maacsports.com/tennis.
