LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's & Women's Golf Championships returns to Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL, from April 23-25, 2021. This will be the sixth time since 2015 that the Magnolia Golf Course has played host to the conference championship.
The three-round, 54-hole championship gets underway Friday, April 23, at 7:30 a.m., with Round 2 taking place on Saturday, April 24. The final round for both the men’s and women’s championship will be on Sunday, April 25, and broadcasted live on ESPN+.
For the men, Iona College is vying for a third consecutive MAAC Championship, and their seventh in program history. The 2021 MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll favorites are led by sixth-year head coach Sean Burke, the reigning back-to-back MAAC Men’s Golf Coach of the Year. Additionally, the Gaels return a trio of 2019 All-MAAC players in Oisin Devereux, Kritsarin Oukosavanna, and Justin Burkhamer. Devereux looks to continue where he left off in the 2019 MAAC Championship, where he finished tied for second place (+3). Burkhamer, a two-time member of the All-MAAC team and the 2018 MAAC Rookie of the Year, also looks to improve on his top-five finish at the 2019 Championship (+6).
On the women’s side, preseason favorite University at Albany seeks to make it three MAAC titles in a row, and their fourth overall, after winning back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. The Great Danes will look to junior Madison Walker, a 2019 All-MAAC member and 2018 Co-Rookie of the Year, and graduate student Megan Henry, who earned All-MAAC honors in 2018. At the helm is head coach and three-time MAAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year, Colleen Cashman-McSween.
Hartford’s Maria Loza, the 2019 MAAC Individual Champion, makes her return to Lake Buena Vista to defend the women’s individual title. Loza entered her senior season with the best career stroke average in history of Hartford Women’s Golf (75.21), and has recorded top-10 finishes in five events this season. In her final event before the MAAC Championship, Loza finished eighth at the Hartford/Gillette Invitational with a +9.
