Long Island University Claims Their First MAAC Water Polo Regular Season Title
EDISON, NJ (April 25, 2021) – Long Island University is the MAAC Water Polo Regular Season Champion after completing the season undefeated, 7-0. This is just the Sharks' second season in collegiate competition.
LIU (7-0, 7-0 MAAC) completed their undefeated season as they defeated Iona (2-7, 2-7 MAAC), 13-9 on Saturday to secure their regular season title and is currently ranked 24th nationally. Paola Dominguez and Jessica Dean each had five goals to lead the Sharks in the win. Jenna Anderson added two, and Diba Peiravani had one. Xonhane Medina had three assists. In goal, Julia Zebak had seven blocks, while Rebecca Ansell had four blocks and a steal.
The Sharks will be the top seed in the upcoming MAAC Water Polo Championship, which takes place May 1 & 2 at the McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College. Marist will be hosting the MAAC Championship for the 18th straight year.
Semifinal action gets underway at 12 p.m. on May 1. The second semifinal will follow at 3 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 2.
