MAAC Announces Weekly Award Winners
Edison, NJ (April 28, 2021) – Today, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced various weekly award honors for Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse.
Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Award Winner presented by Hercules Tires
Defensive Player & Rookie of the Week
Logan Covey, Marist
Fr., Finksburg, MD/Westminster Senior High
Covey has been absolutely sensational in goal for the Red Foxes this season. Covey played an integral role in two victories, picking up a career-high 14 saves in a victory against Quinnipiac, and then almost topping that with 13 more saves against Manhattan later in the week, for a total of 27 on a .628 save percentage. He also had a ground ball in each game.
Offensive Player of the Week
Sean Westley, St. Bonaventure
So., Whitby, Ontario/The Hill Academy
Set program record with 6 goals in win over Siena. Keyed 11-6 win, scoring a hat trick in the first 19 minutes and sending 6 of his 10 shots on goal into the net. Also added 2 groundballs. Leads the MAAC with 19 goals on the season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Ashley Gambardella, Manhattan
So., Bethpage, NY/Plainedge
Went 3-0 with an 8.67 GAA and a .544 save percentage with 3.3 ground balls per game last week. Began her big week with a career-high 16 saves in posting an impressive .615 save percentage with three ground balls in a 17-10 victory over Iona. Followed that up with seven saves and a .561 save percentage in 9-8 win vs. Niagara. Capped her big performance with eight saves and a .544 save percentage in another victory over Iona. On the year, is 3-7 with a .443 save percentage.
Offensive Player of the Week
Grace Lipponer, Manhattan
Jr., Lake Grove, NY/Sachem North
Notched 11 goals and four assists en route to averaging 5.0 points per game in helping leading Manhattan to a perfect 3-0 week. Collected a career-high eight points on the strength of five goals and three assists in the Jaspers' 17-10 romp at Iona. Followed that up with three goals and an assist in Manhattan's 9-8 upset win over Niagara. Capped her big week with three goals, including back-to-back scores that capped the Green & White's 12-8 victory in the rematch with the Gaels. Also had five draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. On the year, has a team-leading 31 goals and a team-best matching 38 points.
Rookie of the Week
Lexi Braniecki, Niagara
Fr., Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua, NY
Lexi Braniecki was second on the team with eight goals and 10 points in three games last week. In the comeback win over Marist, Braniecki netted a hat-trick for the second time this season. She earned her third hat trick of the season while also recording a team-high two assists in the win over Quinnipiac. Braniecki found the back of the net twice against Manhattan for her fifth straight two-goal game.
