Fairfield’s Kudlacik, Manhattan’s Moore and Canisius’ Giese Earn Rawlings MAAC Softball Weekly Award Winners
Pitcher of the Week
Katie Kudlacik, Fairfield
Jr., Emerson, NJ/Paramus Catholic
Katie Kudlacik struck out 23 hitters in 12 innings and won two games for the Stags in a 2-2 week. She opened the week by allowing two runs in five innings while fanning 10 Iona hitters to earn her first win of the season in her first start. Kudlacik followed up with 13 strikeouts in a three-hit complete-game shutout against the Gaels three days later. For the week, she registered a 0.58 ERA with one earned run allowed and a shutout.
Player of the Week
Annie Moore, Manhattan
Jr., Northridge, CA/El Camino Real
Hit safely in all six games last week, en route to batting .588 (10-of-17) with a double, home run, six RBI, three runs and a walk. She registered an .824 slugging percentage and a .600 OBP. Moore began her big week by going two-for-three with a home run and four RBIs and two runs in a doubleheader-opening win over Quinnipiac. She followed that up by going two-for-three with an RBI to help complete the sweep over the Bobcats. In the series opener against Canisius, registered both Manhattan hits, before going two-for-four with a double, run and an RBI in helping the Jaspers to the win. She concluded her strong week with hits in each of the final two games against the Golden Griffins. On the year, she is batting a team-best .407 with a double, home run and six RBIs.
Rookie of the Week
Megan Giese, Canisius
Fr., Buffalo, NY/Orchard Park
Canisius freshman pitcher Megan Giese earned her first two career wins in the circle last week as the Golden Griffins took three of four from Manhattan in Riverdale, N.Y. On Friday, Giese picked up her first career victory in 5.0 innings of work, as she allowed two hits and fanned seven Jaspers in Canisius' 10-0 mercy-rule win. On Saturday, Giese held Manhattan scoreless for the second-straight day, as she went the distance and struck out a career-high 10 batters in the Blue and Gold's 2-0 win in the twin bill nightcap. Those 10 strikeouts are the most for a Canisius freshman pitcher in a game since the 2010 season.
