Edison, N.J. (April 6, 2021) – The MAAC announced today that the Siena Women’s Soccer Team has claimed the 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season Title. The Saints have finished the abbreviated season without a loss, completing the regular season with a 4-0-1 record. The Saints will be the number one seed in the 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship starting on Friday, April 9.

For Siena, who were predicted to finish eighth in the 2020-21 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, this is the program’s first-ever MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season Championship.

The Saints’ final game of the season versus Monmouth finished in a 1-1 draw. After conceding an early goal, Siena’s Emily McNelis (Northport, NY/Northport) found the equalizer in the 36th minute. Despite being out-shot after halftime 16-2, the Saints were able to hold on and force the tie against the four-time defending MAAC Champion. Goalkeeper Leslie Adams (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) made a season-high 11 saves and earned Bob McCloskey Insurance MAAC Women’s Soccer Defense Player of the Week for her effort.

After missing the postseason in 2019, the Saints return to postseason play marking their seventh appearance in the last eight years. Siena will also be seeking its third MAAC Championship. The Saints’ first two titles came in 2010 and 2015, both under current Head Coach Steve Karbowski who is in his 22nd season with Siena.

"I'm extremely proud of the commitment and sacrifice that everyone on our team has made to follow all of the protocols during this unusual season," said Karbowski. "It has been a challenging year, and this is a great accomplishment for the team to head into the MAAC Tournament as the top seed.”

The 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship begins on Friday, April 9, with the quarterfinal round. The 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game is scheduled for Friday, April 16.
