The top-seeded Siena Saints (4-0-1) completed their abbreviated season over just a 10-day span, clinching their first-ever MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season Title in the process. For Siena, who were predicted to finish eighth in the 2020-21 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, they make their return to the MAAC Championship after missing the postseason in 2019. As the top seed, Siena will begin their mission to win their third MAAC Championship on April 9 at 3 p.m., when they will take on eighth-seeded Iona in the quarterfinals.
Quarterfinal #1 has No. 2 Quinnipiac (4-1-1) taking on No. 7 Fairfield (2-2-1) at 3 p.m. in Hamden, CT. The two played their most recent game against one another, with Quinnipiac earning a 1-0 win at home on April 6. The Bobcats earned their second-straight shutout victory as Selena Salas scored the lone goal for Quinnipiac. This is also the second consecutive season that the two teams will meet in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship. In 2019, they faced off in the semifinal round with Fairfield advancing to the championship game by a score of 1-0.
Quarterfinal #2 will feature third-seeded Monmouth (3-1-2) taking on sixth-seeded Niagara (2-2) at 5 p.m. in West Long Branch, NJ. Monmouth holds the tiebreaker over No. 4 Rider (3-1-2) with their regular season victory over the Broncs, 2-1, on March 30. The four-time defending MAAC Champions, the Hawks will look to make it five consecutive titles and their sixth since 2013. Like the previous matchup, Monmouth and Niagara met in the 2019 MAAC Women’s Soccer Semifinals, with the Hawks earning the victory, 3-0, on their way to the MAAC title. The Purple Eagles enter the MAAC Championship following a six-goal performance against Canisius College, the most in a single game for Niagara since 2012.
No. 1 Siena will welcome No. 8 Iona (1-3-1) to Loudonville, NY for Quarterfinal #3, scheduled for 3 p.m. The two teams met back on March 25, with Siena winning, 6-0. Iona makes their return to the MAAC Championship for the first time since 2017, when the No. 10 Gaels upset No. 7 Fairfield on penalty kicks, 5-4, to advance to the quarterfinal round.
The fourth and final Quarterfinal has No. 4 Rider playing No. 5 Manhattan (3-2) at 4 p.m. in Lawrenceville, NJ. This will be the second time this season Rider will play host to the Jaspers, as they played one another back on April 3. The Broncs took the victory, 3-1. For Manhattan, this is their fourth appearance in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship since 2009 and their first since 2017. In their last two appearances (2015, 2017), the Jaspers have advanced to the championship game.
The 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship begins on Friday, April 9, with the quarterfinal round. Semifinal round action will take place on Monday, April 12. The 2020-21 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game is scheduled for Friday, April 16.
