Marist Women’s Rowing Complete Day 1 of NCAA Championships
SARASOTA, FL – The Marist women's rowing program opened up the 2021 NCAA Championships on Friday at Nathan Benderson Park. The Red Foxes began the competition with the heats and repechages in the first of three days of racing.
- Starting the action in the morning, calm waters greeted the rowers along with mostly sunny skies.
- Temperatures climbed to up to 84 degrees in the middle of the day, with only a few clouds making appearances.
- Winds picked up to 12 miles per hour by the end of the morning session and continued in the afternoon.
- Teams had to navigate a cross-tailwind as well as choppier water in the repechages.
- The lineup featured: Olivia Siyahian (Cox), Marie Ryden, Lydia Giguere, Selena Mildon, Sydney Ford, Lauren Muhr, Ashley Surette, Caroline Voorhis, and Genevieve Anderson.
- Marist participated in Lane 6 of the third heat, facing Navy, Alabama, Stanford, Rutgers, and Syracuse.
- Heat Results:
- The Red Foxes' best stretch of the race came between the 500m and 1000m mark, maintaining the pace with Navy and Alabama.
- Ultimately, Marist finished sixth in the heat in a time of 7:01.628.
- Repechage Results:
- Marist took seventh, improving its time by about 10 seconds to 6:51.847.
- The lineup featured: Kathryn Moody (Cox), Sara Barker, Elizabeth Kelly, McKenna Klineyoung, Emma Jauch, Natalia Miklos, Olivia Nasternak, Avalon Johnson, and Jasmine Miller.
- Marist participated in Lane 6 of the third heat, facing Ohio State, Virginia, Syracuse, Wisconsin, and Rhode Island.
- Heat Results:
- The Red Foxes locked in to a tight matchup with the Rams, as both sides sat just a couple seats apart in the first half of the race.
- Marist made its move with 500m to go, moving ahead of Rhode Island and beating the Rams in the final strokes.
- Officially, Marist clocked in at 7:03.691, good for fifth in the heat and nearly five seconds off their MAAC Championship time. The Rams weren't far behind in 7:04.991.
- Repechage Results:
- Marist engaged in another tight battle, this time with Gonzaga.
- Despite being behind by about 2.5 seconds halfway through, the Red Foxes had another strong push in the final meters, finishing in 7:00.126.
- That time was almost a five-second improvement from the morning, and eight-tenths faster than Gonzaga.
- The lineup featured: Breana Pelliccio (Cox), Mary Schone, Victoria Hamilton, Sophia Ledda, and Hilary Anderson.
- Marist participated in Lane 6 of the third heat, facing Ohio State, Michigan, Syracuse, California, and Rhode Island.
- Heat Results:
- The Red Foxes jumped out of the gate with a favorable tailwind, and utilized it to record a time of 7:56.899 to place sixth in the heat.
- That time beat out Marist's 7:58.042 effort in the MAAC Championship Grand Final.
- Repechage Results:
- Marist clocked in at 8:12.953.
- Marist competes in the C/D semifinals on Saturday morning. The Red Foxes row at the following times:
- V8 – 8:12 a.m. – Lane 1 vs. Northeastern, Wisconsin, Washington State, and Navy.
- 2V8 – 9:00 a.m. – Lane 5 vs. Rhode Island, Alabama, Princeton, and Washington State.
- V4 – 10:00 a.m. – Lane 1 vs. Navy, Princeton, Wisconsin, and Northeastern.
- The top three teams in these entries will advance to the C finals, while the other three head to the D final.
