Marist Sets Stage For Sunday Finals

SARASOTA, FL – Marist Women's Rowing continued its time in the 2021 NCAA Championships at Nathan Benderson Park on Saturday. The Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 posted their best times of the regattas in the C/D semifinals, and all three of Marist's boats locked in spots in the D finals on Sunday, May 30th.
 
Conditions
  • Temperatures sat in the mid-70s as the V8 shoved off to start the day. The sun had just risen as Marist arrived to the facility.
  • The water continued to sit calmly and the wind was a mere five miles per hour, providing an optimal setting for racing.
 
Varsity 8
  • The lineup featured: Olivia Siyahian (Cox), Marie Ryden, Lydia Giguere, Selena Mildon, Sydney Ford, Lauren Muhr, Ashley Surette, Caroline Voorhis, and Genevieve Anderson.
  • Squaring off in Lane 1 against Northeastern, Wisconsin, Washington State, and Navy, the Red Foxes crossed the finish line at 6:53.575.
  • The piece was faster than their heat, and just a few seconds shy of the repechage piece.
 
Second Varsity 8
  • The lineup featured: The lineup featured: Kathryn Moody (Cox), Sara Barker, Elizabeth Kelly, McKenna Klineyoung, Emma Jauch, Natalia Miklos, Olivia Nasternak, Avalon Johnson, and Jasmine Miller.
  • Occupying Lane 5 and facing Rhode Island, Alabama, Princeton, and Washington State, the Red Foxes clocked in at 6:57.749.
  • That time is the a season-best for the Red Foxes, beating both their MAAC Championship effort as well as the 2019 2V8's fastest time from their NCAA Championships.
  • The 2V8 has knocked off just under six seconds since their first piece on Friday morning.
 
Varsity 4
  • The lineup featured: Breana Pelliccio (Cox), Mary Schone, Victoria Hamilton, Sophia Ledda, and Hilary Anderson.
  • Racing from Lane 1 vs. Navy, Princeton, Wisconsin, and Rhode Island, the Red Foxes finished with a time of 7:49.809.
  • It is the first time this season that the crew finished below 7:50, and was nine seconds quicker than their MAAC Championship-winning time.
 
Up Next
  • All three boats compete in the D finals on Sunday, the last race of the 2020-21 season. The order of finish will determine which teams finish in 19th-22nd place in the NCAA Championships.
  • The Varsity 4 races first at 8:12 a.m. In Lane 2, Marist challenges Northeastern, Rhode Island, and Tennessee.
  • The Second Varsity 8 competes at 8:36 a.m. In Lane 2, the Red Foxes face Northeastern, Rhode Island, and Gonzaga.
  • The Varsity 8 rows at 9 a.m. In Lane 2, Marist will take on Gonzaga, Northeastern, and Rhode Island.
