Monmouth Claims Regular Season Softball Title
EDISON, NJ (May 4, 2021) – Monmouth University (25-7, 25-7 MAAC) was named the 2021 MAAC Softball Regular Season Champions. This is Monmouth’s third consecutive regular season championship. The Hawks will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAAC Softball Championship and will host their quarterfinal opponent.
The Hawks finished their season on Sunday by sweeping their doubleheader against Fairfield University (18-12, 18-12 MAAC). Alyssa Irons and Kylie Gletow each pitched seven inning complete games, winning 6-1 and 2-1 respectively. In their second game of the day, Abbey Warner would single to center to score Tommi Stowers for the second run of the third inning, giving the Hawks all they would need to win the game.
Monmouth will be looking for the team’s third-straight MAAC Championship, after winning the 2019 title over Marist and the 2018 title over Fairfield. The Hawks will also be looking to make their sixth-straight MAAC Championship series. Monmouth’s championship run will begin on Saturday, May 8 against the No. 8 seed. The Hawks have won 17 out of their last 20 games heading into the MAAC Tournament.
The 2021 MAAC Softball Championship will feature the league’s top eight teams and will take place May 8-16. Action begins on Saturday, May 8 with the quarterfinals being hosted by the higher seeds. The championship round from May 14-16 will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
