Monmouth Men & Women Lead MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships After Day One
Lawrenceville, NJ (May 8, 2021) – After the first day of action at the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Monmouth University men and women are atop the leaderboard. Rounding out the top three teams on the men’s side are Iona College and Rider University. On the women’s side, Rider holds second and Quinnipiac University sits in third place.

Men’s Day One Field Results
- In the men’s hammer throw, Montel Johnson from Monmouth won with a distance of 57.30m. Rider’s Kyle Poetsch finished second with a distance of 52.98m and Monmouth’s Brandon Davis took third with a distance of 52.88.
- Saint Peter’s Jabari Higgs-Salaam took home the peacocks only gold of the day as he won the Long Jump (7.49m). Rider’s Zach Manorowitz took second with a distance of 7.44m and Monmouth’s Romaine Rhoden won bronze jumping 7.11m
- Monmouth swept the podium in the Men’s Pole Vault Connor Bennett (4.85m), Randy Showmaker (4.70m) Dalton Yuest (4.70m) took home gold, silver, and bronze respectively.
- Monmouth also swept the Javelin Throw as Mark Orlando (59.53m), Dorian Jackson (57.14m), and Taylor Boorse (54.73m) took first, second, and third.
Women’s Day One Field Results
- Rider took home the gold in the Pole Vault at Allie Riches cleared 3.70m. Manhattan’s Lilly Brown and Monmouth’s Lauren Saifi tied for second with a heigh of 3.40m.
- Monmouth took first and third in the Hammer Toss, as Alexis Uzoaru (52.30m) and Chibuzo Amonu (49.49m) took home the medals. Manhattan’s Nina Bjorkman took second with a distance of 51.81m.
- Danielle Steff of Monmouth won gold in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 47.31m. Rider’s Grace Ramsey took silver throwing 42.45m and Quinnipiac Mikah Maples won third with a distance of 41.02m.
- Rider took first and second in the Long Jump as Lindsay Bauer reached 5.74m and Karissa Watson jumped 5.67m. Quinnipiac’s Meaghan Scullin hit a distance of 5.65m.
Men’s Day One Track Results
- Iona’s Edwin Johnson took home the gold in the 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:13.86. Coming in second was Rider’s Scott Ruskan who just edged out Siena’s Tommy Anderson with times of 9:15.83 and 9:15.84 respectively.
- Brandon Olden took home Siena’s only gold of the day in the 10,000 meter run as he turned in a time of 30:08.66. Iona’s Lachlan Wellington placed second with a time of 30:14.30 and Manhattan’s Pelle Nogueira finished third with a time of 30:19.21.
Women’s Day One Track Results
- Gianna Tedeschi earned Marist’s only gold of the day in the 10,000 meter run as she turned in a time of 35:48.34, nearly 20 seconds faster than the next runner. Manhattan’s Andria Scaglione placed second with a time of 36:08.07 and Siena’s Elaine Atanasova finished third with a time of 37:18.66.
- Earning Quinnipiac’s only gold of the day was first-year Alessandra Zaffina who turned in a time of 10:48.30. Taking second was Marist’s Alexandra Bartolotta with a time of 10:55.73 and Manhattan’s Nicola Scaglione took third with a time of 11:08.24.
