Canisius and Iona Both Force Game 3 on Day 2 of the Quarterfinal Round

Game 1 – Canisius 3, Rider 4
Game 2 – Canisius 4, Rider 2
Series Tied, 1-1
Canisius College (20-12, 22-11 MAAC) and Rider University (17-19, 16-18 MAAC) split their doubleheader today and will play the series-deciding game 3 tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. In the first game the Griffs got out to an early 3-0 lead as they put up all three runs in the third, but the Broncs would strike right back in the top fourth as they tied the game at 3-3. In the top of the fifth Lani Moreno would double to score Elena Gonzalez and take a 4-3 lead, which would end up being the final score. In Game 2, Canisius and Rider would trade runs back and forth and find themselves tied 2-2 in the fifth, but the Griffs would add two more in in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Megan Giese would then come in to pitch the final two innings for the Griffs and record the save.
Canisius Notes – Game 1
- Erin Hufford, Morgan Altman, Lindsi Dennis, and Destiny Falquez would each record a hit. Hufford, Altman, and Falquez would also each tally an RBI.
- Alexis Churchill would pitch 4.2 innings allowing nine hits, and four runs while striking out one. Giese would appear in relief and pitch the final 2.1 innings and would strike out two, while not allowing a hit.
Canisius Notes – Game 2
- Seven Griffs tallied hits, Sue Vi led the way with two.
- Altman (2), Kara Paradowski (1), Dennis (1) all recorded an RBI.
- Emily Nicosia was credited with the win as she pitched 5.0 innings, giving up five hits, two runs, and struck out two.
Rider Notes – Game 1
- Five Broncs tallied hits, Gonzalez and Chaela Crowder led the way with two each.
- Crowder also tallied two RBIs, Moreno and Jessie Niegocki each recorded an RBI.
- Anna-Marie Groskritz pitched a complete game, only allowing four hits, zero earned runs, and struck out one.
Rider Notes – Game 2
- Niegocki (2), Brianna Koonce (2), Gonzalez (1), and Alyssa Ansara (1) all recorded hits for the Broncs.
- Koonce tallied the Broncs two RBIs and scored a run.
- Debra Jones pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, four runs, struck out three, and walked three.
No. 3 Iona vs. No. 6 Manhattan

Game 1 – Iona 2, Manhattan 6
Game 2 – Iona 3, Manhattan 1
Series Tied, 1-1
Iona College (22-11, 21-10 MAAC) and Manhattan College (18-14, 17-13 MAAC) split their doubleheader and will play their series-deciding game tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. Manhattan jumped out to an early lead in the first inning at they scored twice and eventually found themselves up 4-0 in the top of the fourth. The Gaels and Jaspers would then trade runs but the Gaels couldn’t mount a comeback as they fell to Manhattan 6-2 in the first game. In the second game, it would be Iona jumping out to an early lead as they tallied three runs in the bottom of the second, which would be all they would need to win. The Jaspers would score in the fourth but were unable to close out the series as the Gaels won game two 3-1.
Iona Notes – Game 1
- Natalia Meray (2), Alana Evans (1), Kaylin Flukey (1), and Morgan Ritchey (1) all tallied hits. Meray had the team’s only RBI, a solo home run.
- Kara Zazzaro pitched 6.0 innings allowing six runs, while striking out seven. Ciarra DiGuilio pitched one inning and stuck out one.
Iona Notes – Game 2
- Evans recorded the team’s only hit and Kayla Haywood, Jessica Chilcott, and Meray each tallied an RBI.
- Zazaaro pitched a complete game only allowing four hits, one run, and striking out eight.
Manhattan Notes – Game 1
- Annie Moore and Marika Deemer each recorded a team-high two hits. Deemer and Gabriella Mazzotta had 2 RBIs, Daniela Chiorazzi and Annie Moore each had an RBI.
- Mazzotta and Moore each had a home run.
- Nicole Williams pitched a complete game allowing two runs on five hits and walking one while striking out a season-high 11 batters.
Manhattan Notes – Game 2
- Four Jaspers recorded hits, Deemer had a team-high two hits.
- Victoria Alonso had one hit and one RBI.
- Kali Puppolo pitched 1.2 innings allowing three runs on one hit and walked four. Appearing in relief was Deemer who pitched 4.1 innings and didn’t allow a hit, striking out four and walking one.
