2021 MAAC Softball Championship – Quarterfinal Round

Game 1 – Canisius 3, Rider 4
Game 2 – Canisius 4, Rider 2
Game 3 – Canisius 7, Rider 5
Canisius Win Series, 2-1
 
Canisius College (20-12, 22-11 MAAC) beat Rider University (17-20, 16-18 MAAC) in the series-deciding game 3 in comeback fashion. The Griffs and Broncs traded runs early but in the top of the fourth Rider’s offense broke through scoring four runs in the inning to a 5-1 lead. Canisius would go on to load the bases in the bottom of the fifth and then Morgan Altman hit a bases-clearing double into left field to bring the score to 5-4 Broncs. But in the bottom of the sixth the Griffs, would complete the comeback and score three more runs to take a 7-5 lead and win the game by that score. The Canisius Golden Griffins will play host in the championship round as they are the highest remaining seed and will face Marist in their first game of the double-elimination championship round.
 
Canisius Notes – Game 3
  • Eight Griffs would tally hits, Kara Paradowski would lead the team with two. Paradowski also had a two RBI single to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Altman was one-for-three on the day, with her one hit producing three RBIs. 
  • Sydney Costan and Sue Vi also tallied an RBI each.
  • Alexis Churchill pitched 2.0 innings giving up two hits, one unearned run, and struck out one. Megan Giese would take pitched the final 5.0 innings and would give up four runs on six hits and strike out three and get credited with the win.
 
Rider Notes – Game 3
  • Five Broncs tallied hits, with Kelsey Marigliano, Jessie Niegocki, and Chaela Crowder each having two.
  • Crowder, Gianna Epps, and Alyssa Ansara each had an RBI for the Broncs. 
  • Anna-Marie Groskritz pitched 5.1 innings allowing nine hits, seven runs, struck out six, and walked two. Debra Jones would appear in relief and pitch the final .2 innings walking one and not allowing a hit.

Game 2 – Iona 3, Manhattan 1
Game 3 – Iona 5, Manhattan 11
Manhattan Wins Series, 2-1
 
Manhattan College (19-14, 17-13 MAAC) broke the game open in the top of the seventh to prevent an Iona College (22-12, 21-10 MAAC) comeback and advance the Jaspers to the MAAC Softball Championship Round. The Jaspers and Gaels would trade runs early and in the fifth inning Manhattan would jump out to a 6-1 lead as they tallied five fifth inning runs. The Gaels would not go down without a fight as they score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 6-5 game. However, the Jaspers would answer right back and kill any hope of a comeback as they score five insurance runs in the seventh and win the game 11-5.
 
Manhattan Notes – Game 3
  • Seven Jaspers recorded hits and they were led by Annie Moore who went four-for-five on the day tallying four RBIs and scored a run.
  • Marika Demmer, Gabriella Mazzotta, and Victoria Alonso would each record two hits. Alonso (4) and Demmer (1) would both also record an RBI.
  • Nicole Williams got credited with the win as she pitched 5.1 innings allowing eight hits, four runs, and struck out three. Marika Deemer appeared in relief and pitched 1.2 innings allowing two hits, and one run.
 
Iona Notes – Game 3
  • Nine Gaels recorded hits. They were led by Jamie Sheeran who was two-for-four on the day.
  • Natalia Meray and Kaelene Walter would each hit home runs on the day.
  • Kara Zazzaro pitched a complete game allowing 13 hits, eight earned runs, walked four, and struck out three.
