Marist's Nicole Sasso Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team
AUSTIN, TX – Marist Women's Soccer Class of 2021 graduate Nicole Sasso has been selected to the 2020-21 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon.
The award is the first of Sasso's career. It marks the third consecutive year that a Red Fox was represented; Sasso's classmate, Jillian Colucci, picked up the honor in 2018 and 2019.
In three-plus seasons with the program, Sasso has earned a plethora of accolades while excelling athletically and academically. The Freehold, NJ native started in 52 of her 55 career games, scoring 11 goals and four assists for 26 career points. In her sophomore season, she tallied a career-best four goals for 10 points to help guide Marist to the MAAC Semifinals.
Sasso is both a three-time All-MAAC Second Team and MAAC All-Academic selection, while also earning a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2017. Prior to the 2020-21 campaign, she was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, and picked up an assist in the Red Foxes' season opener against Quinnipiac on March 9th. This past weekend, Sasso earned her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology from Marist College.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve at their current institution with a cumulative 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic creating challenges to compare yearly statistics, career statistics were submitted for nominees.
Sasso was named to the All-District 1 team, which includes Division I student-athletes at schools from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont:
