Canisius' Burlingame Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team Honors 7/1/2021 4:15:00 PM Canisius baseball player Jake Burlingame has been named to the 2021 Academic All-District I First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Burlingame, who closed out his collegiate playing career in May, graduated from the College with his undergraduate degree in 2020 and then earned his master's degree in sport administration in 2021. He is the first Canisius baseball player to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team since 2018, and he is one of three players from a MAAC school to receive the honor this year. An All-MAAC First Team selection in 2021, Burlingame led the Golden Griffins in eight different offensive categories, including hits (41), runs (35), doubles (8), total bases (74), slugging percentage (.643) and stolen bases (8). The Horseheads, N.Y., native reached base safely in 28-straight games during the course of the 2021 campaign, the longest such streak for a Canisius player since 2018, and he also recorded a career-long 10-game hit streak which ran from April 26 through May 15. In the team's road win at Niagara April 14, Burlingame scored five runs for the Blue and Gold to tie a program record. The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late July.
