Canisius adds Beechy to Women’s Basketball Staff

Canisius women's basketball coach Sahar Nusseibeh announced the addition of Krista Beechy to her staff as an assistant coach on Thursday.

"It is with the utmost excitement that we welcome Krista to our program," Nusseibeh said. "I have had the privilege of knowing her as a respected colleague over the last seven years and she is someone I have wanted to work alongside of for quite awhile. Krista's strength in connecting with others, her drive to bring her best, and her passion for the development of our women will be invaluable to our current and future Griffs, as well as everyone associated with the Canisius women's basketball family."

Beechy arrives on Main Street after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach with the Furman University women's basketball program.

In her role with the Paladins, Beechy was responsible for aiding efforts in recruiting, scouting and player development for the program. During her time in Greenville, S.C., Beechy assisted in the development of Celena Taborn, a four-time All-Southern Conference selection, as well as Tierra Hodges, a two-time All-SoCon choice.

"I'm beyond excited to join the Canisius women's basketball program," Beechy said. "I've respected Coach Sahar for years. Her passion for helping players develop both on and off the court is contagious. She has a way of building up everyone around her to be the best version of themselves and I'm incredibly grateful to get to be a part of it."

Prior to her time at Furman, Beechy served as the director of operations for the Kent State women's basketball program from 2014-2016. In her time with the Golden Flashes, Beechy was tasked with coordinating community outreach initiatives, basketball camps and team video duties.

A native of Winesburg, Ohio, Beechy earned her undergraduate degree in business management from Grove City College in 2010 and then went on to earn her master's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from Winthrop University in 2014.
