Matt Cunningham Joins Siena Men’s Soccer Staff

The Iona Graduate Brings Valuable Experience to the Saints

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Just days before the start of the Fall 2021 campaign and his second season at the helm of the program, Siena Men's Soccer Head Coach Graciano Brito announced the addition of former Iona student athlete Matt Cunningham to his coaching staff. Cunningham will serve as an assistant coach alongside Jim Clementi and Ryan Brooks-Newton.

"Matt is a great addition to our team," Brito said. "He has college coaching experience, and will bring excitement and energy to our team, and is a motivated person who can help us build the program. He's also a local product who's been around the game for a long time in this area and will be a great asset in recruiting. He also brings knowledge and experience from the MAAC to our staff, having played in our conference."

Cunningham comes to Loudonville after having served as the assistant men's soccer coach at nearby Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York during the 2020-21 school year. He also spent the previous three seasons from 2018-21 as an assistant varsity boy's soccer coach at Voorheesville High School, helping to lead the Blackbirds to Sectional and Regional Titles in 2019, as well as secure a place in the New York State Final Four. Cunningham has also been involved in the local club soccer scene, serving as an assistant coach with the Black Watch Premier Soccer Club from 2015-20.

No stranger to the MAAC, Cunningham was a member of the men's soccer program at Iona during college. A native of nearby Bethlehem, NY, he led Bethlehem Central High School to the 2005 Suburban Council Championship and an appearance in the Section 2 Finals.

A 2010 graduate from Iona with a bachelor's degree in mass communications, Cunningham holds a USSF Class "E" Coaching License, as well as diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches and The English Football Association.
