Edison, N.J. (August 26, 2021) – The non-conference portion of the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer season begins this afternoon, with nine teams scheduled to play today. This weekend’s action will see six more games being played, as all 11 teams will see action this opening weekend.
Quinnipiac University was ranked the preseason favorite, as voted by the league’s 11 head coaches. The Bobcats took home the regular season championship last year and appeared in the MAAC Championship game for the third time since 2016 before eventually falling to Monmouth. Quinnipiac will open the season at home as they play host to Boston College at 4:00 p.m. today.
The defending champion Monmouth Hawks will play host to Howard Friday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. The Hawks took home their second MAAC Championship last season, their first since 2014. They also went on to win their first round game in the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship when they defeated Bowling Green 2-1.
Fairfield University and Rider University were picked to finish second and fourth, respectively. The Stags start off 2021 season on the road as they take on the University of Albany at 7:00 p.m. tonight. The Broncs will also open their season on the road as they travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats today at 4:00 p.m.
