MAAC Volleyball Starts Conference Play Tomorrow

Edison, NJ (September 17, 2021) – The conference portion of the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) volleyball season is set to begin this weekend. All 10 MAAC teams are scheduled to face conference opponents for the first time this season.
 
Siena College will travel to Buffalo, NY to take on Canisius College to kick off the conference portion of the season at 12:00 p.m. Canisius is led by Preseason All-MAAC selection Ella Loussia, she and the Griffs will be looking to return to the MAAC Championship this season and claim their first MAAC Championship.
 
Four matches will tip-off at 1:00 p.m. as Marist College takes on Niagara University, Manhattan College plays Iona College, Rider University faces off against Fairfield University and Saint Peter’s goes to Hamden, CT to play Quinnipiac University. The Purple Eagles return Amanda Darling who was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team after being named the 2020-21 Libero and Rookie of the Year. Marist and Niagara were ranked fifth and sixth in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll respectively. The Gaels and Preseason All-MAAC selection Fleur Wiersma will see Manhattan come to town on Saturday as both teams are in search of their third MAAC Championship.
 
Fairfield and Rider were selected first and second respectively in the MAAC Coaches’ Preseason Poll. The defending MAAC Champion, Broncs, with Preseason Player of the Year in Morgan Romano, and Preseason All-MAAC Team selection Anilee Sher will travel to Fairfield, CT to take on the Stags who return Preseason All-MAAC Team selections Luci Albertson, Joelle Battles, and Morgan Romano. Rounding out Saturday’s action is the Peacocks as they take on the Bobcats. Quinnipiac is in search of their first MAAC Championship and Saint Peter’s will be looking for their first MAAC Championship since 1990.
 
Eight teams will continue conference play on Sunday with Siena visiting Niagara, Marist at Canisius, Saint Peter’s traveling to Fairfield, and Rider going to Quinnipiac.
