Niagara Takes Down Canisius in Overtime Thriller

EDISON, NJ (January 10, 2022) – Niagara University defeated Canisius College, 87-86 in an overtime thriller to take the two teams’ first meeting of the 2021-22 season.

The Niagara University women’s basketball team avenged a 12-point deficit in “The Battle of the Bridge,” taking the 87-86 overtime victory over crosstown rival Canisius College. Kyra Grimshaw led the Purple Eagles with 23 points, while also adding nine rebounds. Ally Haar added 15 points and Maddy Yelle contributed 14 points, while Olivia Mason posted her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. For the Griffs, Dani Haskell scored a career-high 27 points in addition to her seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lydia Gattozzi added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Cheyenne Stubbs helped with 14 points and seven assists. Ella Vaatanen scored ten points and Rhay Porter scored seven points, grabbed ten boards and blocked six shots. Canisius and Niagara meet again on Saturday, February 26 at 2 pm in the Gallagher Center.
