EDISON, NJ (Jan. 10, 2022) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league action resumed on Sunday afternoon with a trio of conference matchups. Both Niagara and Rider earned their first MAAC wins of the season, while Siena improved to 2-1 in league play on the year.

Led by a career-high 21 points from Noah Thomasson, Niagara earned its first MAAC win of the season, defeating Quinnipiac 76-66 at the Gallagher Center on Sunday. In addition to Thomasson three other Purple Eagles scored in double figures with Jordan Cintron (14), Rob Brown III (11), and Greg Kuakumensah (11) also surpassing 10 points. Dezi Jones led the way for the Bobcats scoring a season and game-high of 24 points, while Matt Balanc chipped in with 14 points.

Rider edged Marist, 79-75 on the road at McCann Arena on Sunday afternoon to claim the Broncs’ first conference win of the season. With all five starters scoring in double figures, the Broncs were led by a pair of double-doubles from Dimencio Vaughn (14 points and 10 rebounds) and Dwight Murray, Jr (14 points and 11 assists), while Allen Powell scored a team-high 15 points, Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson added 13 points, and Mervin James scored 10 points. The Red Foxes also had a balanced offensive attack, with five double-digit scorers as well. Ricardo Wright (14), Branden Bell (12), Samkelo Cele (11), Noah Harris (10) and Jordan Jones (10) all scored in double figures to lead Marist.

Playing in the newly renamed MVP Arena for the first time, Siena claimed a 69-62 victory over Fairfield on Sunday. The Saints first action in 29 days and without their leading scorer, Siena’s starters combined to score 64 points led by a career-high 19 points from Nick Hopkins, 15 points from Aidan Carpenter, 11 points from Jared Billups, and 10 points by Jackson Stormo. The Stags, which led for the majority of the contest until a late Siena push, was led by Supreme Cook’s second straight double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jesus Cruz (14 points) and Taj Benning (13 points) also scored in double digits for the visiting Stags.
