NEW YORK (Jan. 11, 2022) ---
Dee Dee Davis of Manhattan has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 3-9, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools across Division I.
A 5-8 junior guard from the Bronx, NY, Davis averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds last week in leading the Jaspers (8-5, 3-1) to a pair of homecourt conference victories, edging Rider 63-58 and defeating Marist 72-45.
Davis posted a team-leading 17 points and four steals, along with seven rebounds and five assists, in a stunning come-from-behind win over Rider last Thursday. Manhattan trailed the Broncs by 23 points in the third quarter and was still 14 points in arrears entering the fourth period. As the Jaspers clawed their way back, the visitors continued to lead until Davis drilled a 3-pointer with 71 seconds remaining to tie the game at 55-55. Shortly thereafter Manhattan grabbed the lead for good on a free throw by Davis.
In Saturday’s win over Marist, Davis scored 23 points on 4-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, along with pulling down eight rebounds.
Players receiving MBWA Division I Honorable Mention for the week: Stella Clark, Monmouth; Anna DeWolfe, Fordham; Lyzi Litwinko, NJIT; Lou Lopez-Senechal, Fairfield.
