Niagara Defeats Canisius in Men’s MAAC Basketball on Thursday Night

EDISON, NJ (Jan. 14, 2022) – During the season’s first installment of the Battle of the Bridge rivalry, Niagara knocked off Canisius in the lone Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball contest on Thursday.

Niagara defeated Canisius, 68-58, in the first game of this season’s Battle of the Bridge at the Gallager Center on Thursday night in MAAC action. The Purple Eagles used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to take control of what was a back-and-forth affair up to that point, with 13 lead changes and 11 ties. Marcus Hammond scored a season-high 28 points and Jordan Cintron recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Noah Thomasson chipped in 13 points for Niagara. Canisius had its three-game winning streak snapped in the defeat, losing its first contest in over a month (Dec. 11). Four Golden Griffins posted double-figures in the scoring column, led by Jordan Henderson’s team-high 15 points, while Ahamadou Fofana, Armon Harried, and Jacco Fritz all added 11 points.
