Fairfield, Iona, Marist, Rider, Siena Get Wins to Tighten Women’s Basketball Standings

EDISON, NJ (January 16, 2022) – Fairfield stayed perfect in conference play, Iona grabbed their first conference win, Marist got back in the win column, Rider scored 90 points for the first time since 2014, and Siena recorded their third consecutive win.

Fairfield's Lou Lopez-Sénéchal and Andrea Hernangómez each scored 20 points, while Hernangómez secured 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, aiding the visiting Stags to a 73-37 victory over Canisius in MAAC women's basketball action at the Koessler Athletic Center on Saturday. Canisius guard Dani Haskell posted a team-best 10 points for her 11th consecutive game scoring in double figures.

Siena fought their way to a third consecutive victory with a 53-47 win over Manhattan on Saturday afternoon at the UHY Center. Ahniysha Jackson was the Saints’ leading scorer with 11 points, Rayshel Brown netted 10 points and Selena Philoxy scored nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Jade Blagrove scored a Jasper-best 14 points, Dee Dee Davis netted 10 points and Courtney Warley scored nine points a grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Marist women’s basketball team downed Monmouth at home on Saturday, 71-53 behind 22 points from Kiara Fisher and 20 points from Zaria Shazer. Shazer also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Stella Clark recorded a double-double for the Hawks, scoring 13 points, grabbed 12 boards, and added six assists to her stat line. Clark was the only Hawk to finish in double-figures.

The Iona women’s basketball team won their first conference game of the season over preseason favorite Quinnipiac on Saturday at Hynes Athletic Center, 52-47. Olivia Vezaldenos and Juana Camilion each scored 14 points for the Gaels, while Ketsia Athias registered a double-double, scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mackenzie DeWees scored a Quinnipiac-high 14 points, Rose Caverly scored 11 points and Mikala Morris registered a double-double (11 points, 14 rebounds).

The Rider University women's basketball team used a dominant first half to build a lead that grew as large as 33 Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 92-70 victory over Niagara. The Broncs scored 90 points for the first time since 2014. Lenaejha Evans scored a career-high points and became just the second player to score 30 points in the MAAC this season. Raphaela Touissaint scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Jessika Schiffer netted 12 points. For the Purple Eagles, Kyra Grimshaw scored 20 points and Angel Parker netted 18 in the scoring column.
