Fairfield, Iona, Monmouth, Saint Peter’s, Siena Victorious on Thursday Evening

EDISON, NJ (January 21, 2022) – Fairfield continued their seven-game win streak, Iona out defended Marist, Monmouth grabbed their third win in conference play, Saint Peter’s got back into the win column, and Siena won their fourth straight.

Saint Peter’s women’s basketball defeated Canisius, 74-55 behind 28 points from Kendrea Williams, 17 points and eight rebounds from Kassondra Brown. The Peacocks outrebounded Canisius 37-22 en route to victory. Nickelle O’Neil also registered double-figures for the Peacocks with 10 points. For the Griffs, Athina Lexa and Shaunae Brown recorded 14 points and 12 points, respectively. Saint Peter’s took the regular season series from Canisius, 2-0.

The Fairfield University women’s basketball team defeated Manhattan on Thursday night, 70-55 behind 20 points and seven rebounds from MAAC-leading scorer Lou Lopez-Senechal. The Stags also had contributions from Sydney Lowery (13 points), Rachel Hakes (10 points), Sam Lewis (10 points), and Andrea Hernangomez (nine rebounds). The Jaspers came within nine early in the fourth quarter, but never overcame the Stags’ dominant second quarter. Four Jaspers finished in double-figures led by 17 points from Dee Dee Davis, a double-double from Courtney Warley (12 points, 10 rebounds) and 10 points apiece from Bella Nascimento and Jade Blagrove.

The Iona College women’s basketball team took down Marist in a defensive-minded game, 49-41 behind 15 points and nine rebounds from Juana Camilion who played all 40 minutes in the victory. Olivia Vezaldenos and Judith Gomez each scored 11 points and Ketsia Athias scored eight points and grabbed 10 boards for the Gaels. Kiara Fisher was the lone Red Fox to finish in double-figures with a game-high 16 points.

Monmouth and Niagara each shot 36 percent from the field, but Monmouth outrebounded the Purple Eagles, 50-35 en route to the six-point victory, 61-56. Three Hawks finished in double-figures including 16 points from Kaci Donovan, 12 points from Ariana Vanderhoop and 11 points from Antonia Panayides. Niagara was led by a combined 30 points from Angel Parka and Aaliyah Parker.

Anja Knoflach netted a game-high 19 points and Anajah Brown recorded her first career double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) in Siena’s dominant effort, 82-44 over Rider. Deanna Winston netted 11 points and Selena Philoxy scored eight points and grabbed nine boards. Makayla Firebaugh was the lone Bronc to register double-figures with 12 points.
