Canisius, Manhattan, and Saint Peter’s Earn Tight Wins During Friday Night’s MAAC Men’s Basketball Action

EDISON, NJ (Jan. 22, 2022) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league play continued with three exciting contests on Friday night. Canisius hit a last second shot over Rider, Manhattan fended off Siena, and Saint Peter’s and Niagara gave us an overtime thriller to highlight the night.

Canisius used a late rally to secure a 70-69 home victory over Rider at the Koessler Athletic Center on Friday night. The Golden Griffins scored the game’s final five points over a span of 1:08, including a go-ahead basket with 2.2 seconds left to grab the win. Scott Hitchon led Canisius with 21 points, followed by Ahemadou Fofana’s 15 points, Jacco Fritz’s 13 points, and Armon Harried’s 10 points. For Rider, Dwight Murray Jr., posted a near triple-double, scoring a game-high 27 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.

Manhattan defeated Siena 75-68 on Friday night inside of Draddy Gymnasium. The win gave the Jasper a season sweep over the Saints while also snapping Siena’s four-game winning streak. Jose Perez continued his scoring tear, going for a game-high 32 points in 40 minutes of action. Ant Nelson (13) and Josh Roberts (12) also scored in double figures for the Jaspers in the win. Siena was led by the trio of Anthony Gaines, Nick Hopkins, and Colby Rogers, who scored 18, 14, and 11 points respectively.

Saint Peter's knocked off Niagara 74-68 in an overtime thriller on the road at the Gallagher Center. The win for the Peacocks was the fourth straight, as the team remains perfect during the 2022 calendar year. KC Ndefo recorded his first double-double of the season, matching his career-high with 22 points and setting a new career-mark with 13 rebounds. Daryl Banks III added 17 points, while Matthew Lee chipped in with a season-high 14 points. Marcus Hammond led Niagara with 21 points and Greg Kuakumensah added 12 points for the Purple Eagles.
