Home Teams All Grab Wins in MAAC Play on Saturday

EDISON, NJ (January 23, 2022) – Siena downed top-ranked Fairfield to extend their win streak to five games, Monmouth grabbed their second consecutive win, Quinnipiac outlasted Manhattan, Saint Peter’s squeaked out the one-point victory and Marist got back in the win column.

The Monmouth University women’s basketball team downed Canisius on Saturday, 60-48 on 45-percent from the field and a team-high 14 points from Stella Clark. The Griffs had two players score double figures: Dani Haskell scored 13 points and Athina Lexa added 10 points.

The Siena College women’s basketball team defeated top-ranked Fairfield, 69-56 on Saturday afternoon behind a double-double from Selena Philoxy who finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Saints, now winners of five-straight had strong contributions from Margo. Peterson who scored 16 points, Anja Knoflach who scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds as well as Rayshel Brown who added 10 points. Despite 23 points from MAAC-leading scorer Lou Lopez-Senechal, the Saints lead was too much to overcome for the Stags. Janelle Brown also scored 14 points for Fairfield.

The Saint Peter’s University women’s basketball team defeated Iona on Saturday, 54-53 in a game that saw just four Peacocks tally points. However, they saw 20 points from Kassondra Brown and nine boards, 16 points from Kourtney Crane, Kendrea Williams added 15 and Binta Salawu added three in the win. Juana Camilion led the Gaels with 18 points and Izzy Lipinski scored 15 and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.

Mackenzie DeWees picked up another double-double with 16 points 10 rebounds and Amani Free scored a game-high 21 points en route to a 72-65 Quinnipiac victory over Manhattan. Rose Caverly added 13 points in the win for the Bobcats. Despite a monster double-double from Courtney Warley (20 points, 15 rebounds) and 17 points from Dee Dee Davis, Manhattan suffered their fourth loss in conference. Jenna Jordan added 10 points and Brazil Harvey-Carr added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Jaspers.

The Marist College women’s basketball team defeated Niagara, 72-65 behind 23 points from Zaria Shazer and 14 points from Kendall Krick. Angel Parker led the Purple Eagles with 22 points and Aaliyah Parker scored 14 points in the lossThis game marked Angel Parker’s 11th game with five or more assists, seventh with five or more steals, and fourth with five or more boards.
