Fairfield, Monmouth, Quinnipiac, Saint Peter’s and Siena Winners on Friday Night in MAAC Men’s Basketball

EDISON, NJ (Jan. 29, 2022) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league play continued with five contests on Friday night. Four of the five home teams were victorious with Fairfield being the lone road winner of the night.

Fairfield won its second straight road game, defeating Rider 76-65, on Friday in Lawrenceville, NJ. Powered by the first pair of 20-point scorers in the same game since 2018, Taj Benning matched his career-high with 24 points, while Jake Wojcik scored his third 20-point game of the season to lead the Stags. Rider had a duo of double-digit scorers in Allen Powell (21) and Dimencio Vaughn (17).

Monmouth used a late 10-0 run to propel them to a 72-67 home win over Canisius on Friday. The win was the third in a row for the Hawks. George Papas led the Hawks with 22 points and Walker Miller added 17 for the home side. Armon Harried recorded his first career double-double with 22 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to lead Canisius.

Quinnipiac outlasted Marist 94-87 on Friday night at the People's United Center in Hamden. The Bobcats used an explosive opening frame, scoring a season-high 56 points in the first half. Five Bobcats registered double-digit point totals, led by 20 points from Matt Balanc, and a double-double by Kevin Marfo with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tymu Chenery chipped in with 14 points, Dezi Jones added 13 points, and Jacob Rigoni recorded 12 points. For Marist, freshman Noah Harris scored a career-best 24 points, while Jao Ituka (14), Ricardo Wright (13) and Matt Herasme (12) all scored in double digits.

Saint Peter’s earned a wire-to-wire 77-51 home victory over Manhattan at Run Baby Run Arena on Friday night in Jersey City. Led by 52 combined bench points, the Peacocks won their sixth game out of their last seven outings. The freshman combo of Jaylen Murray and Clarence Rupert both set new career-highs with 14 and 13 points, respectively, and Doug Edert chipped in with 10 points off the bench as well. The Jaspers were led by the trio of Ant Nelson (11), Warren Williams (10) and Samba Diallo (10).

Siena edged Niagara 60-56 at MVP Arena on Friday, allowing a team season-low in points. Jackson Stormo scored 20 points and Colby Rogers added 11 points in the win. Sam Iorio recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Noah Thomasson (15) and Jordan Cintron (13) to lead the Purple Eagles.
