Mikina, Anderson, and Stjernegaard Honored as Wilson MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Award Winners

Offensive Player of the Week
Gabriel Mikina, Niagara
Jr., Toronto, Ontario, Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School

Niagara senior Gabriel Mikina scored a goal in each game last week to help Niagara remain unbeaten in MAAC play. Mikina scored the opening goal in Niagara's 2-0 win over Siena on Wednesday and the second goal against Rider on Saturday. Mikina has scored five times in the last four games.


Defensive Player of the Week
James Anderson, Fairfield
Jr., Clifton, VA, Robinson Secondary
 
James Anderson earned back-to-back clean sheets last week to raise his season total to five for the season. He started his run in Fairfield win over Saint Peter's, making three saves in the second half which included one with 13 minutes remaining to preserve the one-goal lead. He followed with four saves in a decision over Canisius, making two saves in each half. With Fairfield up a goal, he made a save with 10 minutes remaining in the match to keep the lead intact.

Rookie of the Week
Alexander Stjernegaard, Quinnipiac
FY., Rungstad Kyst, Denmark, Bagsvaerd Kostskole og Gymnasium
 
Stjernegaard recorded both a goal and an assist for Quinnipiac this past week. He tallied a goal in Wednesday's road win at Rider, then assisted the Bobcats' game-tying score with 44 seconds remaining in Hamden on Saturday.
 
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
