Salazar, Anderson, and Netzell Named Wilson MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Award Winners

Offensive Player of the Week
Jesus Salazar, Mount St. Mary's
Jr., San Diego, CA, Montgomery

Salazar posted three points in the Mount St. Mary’s 3-2 win over Rider on Wednesday. He scored the equalizing goal in the first half and assisted on the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute of action. On the season, he leads the Mountaineers in points (16), goals (4), and assists (8), which ranks second in the conference.


Defensive Player of the Week
James Anderson, Fairfield
Jr., Clifton, VA, Robinson Secondary
 
James Anderson registered his third straight shutout with the Stags 1-0 win over Niagara, the team's only game of the week. The goalkeeper made seven saves in the match including five in the second half. Anderson extended his consecutive scoreless minutes streak to 274 minutes and added his sixth shutout of the season.

Rookie of the Week
Karl Netzell, Quinnipiac
FY., Stockholm, Sweden, Norra Real
 
The Bobcats' keeper, Netzell, made eight saves in a pair of shutouts this past week, helping lead the Bobcats to a win and a tie. At Manhattan on Wednesday, he made a pair of stops to secure a 0-0 draw and on Saturday against Saint Peter’s, he made six saves to earn a 4-0 clean sheet. He has 33 total saves on the season to go along with four clean sheets.
 
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
