Iona Claims 32nd Consecutive MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship

LOUDONVILLE, NY (Oct. 29, 2022) – Iona University claimed its NCAA record 32nd-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 29 at The Crossings at Colonie in Loudonville, New York. Leading the Gaels was 2022 Men’s Most Outstanding Runner and individual champion, Joshua DeSouza, who paced Iona with a finishing time of 23:46.6 on the 8K course.
 
DeSouza became Iona’s 22nd consecutive individual champion dating back to 2002.
  
Iona secured four of the top-five spots, with a team score of 17 en route to the title. DeSouza was followed by teammates Damien Dilcher (23:47.7), Jonathan DeSouza (23:51.6), and Lachlan Wellington (24:02.1), in second, third, and fifth-place respectively. Siena’s Brandon Olden finished in fourth-place with a time of 23:53.0, to round out the top-five.
 
The 2022 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year was Tadhg Donnelly from Iona. Donnelly finished with a time of 25:09.5 placing 18th overall.
 
Along with Donnelly, members of the All-Rookie Team featured Siena’s Jackson Cayward, Tyler Greene and Nate Sletten, and Marist’s Kieran Donnelly.

Postseason competition continues Friday, November 11 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship which takes place at Van Courtlandt Park in New York, NY. The NCAA Division I Championship will take place November 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma at Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course.
