Manhattan Moves into First-Place; Mount St. Mary’s, and Quinnipiac Tied for Second Following Wednesday’s Men’s Soccer Play

EDISON, NJ (Oct. 6, 2022) – Manhattan College took sole possession of first-place, while Mount St. Mary’s University and Quinnipiac University earned wins on Wednesday to propel both into a second-place tie on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer standings.

The Manhattan men's soccer team earned a 1-0 MAAC victory over Fairfield at Gaelic Park Wednesday night. In the 38th minute, Gunnar Studenhofft struck first for the Jaspers, launching a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that found the back of the net. Fairfield registered two shots and one shot on goal which came from Viggo Sjoberg.

In a high scoring affair, Mount St. Mary's edged Saint Peter's 4-3 during Wednesday's MAAC men’s soccer match at Waldron Family Stadium. All seven goals in the match were scored by a different player, with the Mountaineers tallies coming from Ruben Kiers, Nathan Macek, Kofi Amoah and Lans Bovenberg, while the Peacocks’ goal scorers consisted of Daniel Blackmore, Mikkel Fodstad, and Conlan Paventi.

Quinnipiac men's soccer defeated Marist 3-2 on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden, CT. Tomas Svecula scored in the first half, then David Bercedo netted a pair of scores in the second half to help seal the victory for the Bobcats. Marist’s two goals in the match came from Hugo Guerra and Demarre Montoute.

Canisius and Siena played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon in MAAC men's soccer action at the Demske Sports Complex. The draw was the second straight tie for the Saints, who remain unbeaten (1-0-2) in MAAC play, while the draw gave the Golden Griffins their first league point of the season. Henrik Winkelmann led Siena with four shots and Ely Sidibe led the Griffs with three shots. In goal, Greg Monroe logged five saves for the Saints and William Howard made four saves for Canisius.

Iona and Rider men's soccer played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon at Mazzella Field. With the decision, Iona remains unbeaten at home and in league play, while Rider earned its first league point of the season. Guillaume Veinante made five saves in goal for the Broncs. Offensively, the Gaels finished with an advantage in shots (14-6) and shots on goal (5-1).
 
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
