Top-seeded Quinnipiac will host No. 2 Iona in the championship final on Sunday. The Bobcats knocked-off No. 4 Niagara, 5-2 in the semifinals on Thursday, scoring the most goals in a tournament match since 2011. The Gaels edged rival No. 3 Manhattan, 1-0 in their semifinal meeting on Thursday, scoring the game’s lone tally in the third minute of action.

Quinnipiac will be playing in its fifth overall MAAC final dating back to 2013, tied for the most appearance over the timespan. The Bobcats previous berths came in 2013, 2016, 2018, and 2020-21. This is Iona’s fourth championship title berth all-time, the first since 2019. The Gaels also qualified for the final in 2011 and 1994.

When the Bobcats and Gaels met during the regular season back on Oct. 15, the teams played to a 1-1 draw. The meeting was full of fireworks as Iona led for 53 minutes before surrendering the game-tying goal in the 90th minute.

This will be the third all-time meeting in the postseason between Quinnipiac and Iona. The teams split the previous two matchups with both coming in the semifinals round. In 2013, Quinnipiac edged Iona 7-6 on penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw. During the 2019 tournament, Iona defeated Quinnipiac 2-1. In both previous matches, the winner went on to hoist the MAAC championship trophy.
