2022 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Semifinals Set for Thursday in Connecticut

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 2, 2022) – The 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Soccer Championship semifinal round is set for Thursday, November 3 with both matches taking place in the state of Connecticut. The final four opens with No. 5 Canisius traveling to No. 1 Quinnipiac for a 2pm afternoon start in Hamden, and No. 2 Fairfield welcomes No. 3 Niagara at in primetime at 7pm. Both games will air live on ESPN+.
 

No. 1 Quinnipiac (13-2-1, 9-1 MAAC) vs. No. 5 Canisius (5-4-10, 3-2-5 MAAC)

In the first semifinal matchup of the day, the top seeded Quinnipiac University Bobcats (13-2-1, 9-1 MAAC) will face off with the No. 5 seeded Canisius College Griff’s (5-4-10, 3-2-5 MAAC), for a chance to punch their ticket to the MAAC Championship final.
 
Quinnipiac comes into the game on a three-game win streak, to close out the regular season. After a first-round bye, Quinnipiac hosts this semifinal matchup looking to make a return trip to the finals after finishing as last season’s tournament runner up. In their lone matchup this season Quinnipiac defeated Canisius in a 1-0 effort.
 
Canisius looks to continue their post-season run, after pulling off the road upset against No. 4 seeded Rider. The Griff’s won their opening round matchup on penalty kicks (4-2) after a double overtime thriller. This marks the first semifinals appearance for Canisius since 2013.
 
No. 2 Fairfield (14-3, 9-1 MAAC) vs. No. 3 Niagara (10-7-1, 6-3-1 MAAC)

The second semifinal matchup will feature No. 2 seeded Fairfield University Stags (14-3, 9-1 MAAC) hosting the No. 3 seeded Niagara University Purple Eagles (10-7-1, 6-3-1 MAAC). The winner of this matchup will face the winner of the first semifinal game between Quinnipiac and Canisius.
 
Fairfield opens its post-season at home for a night game against Niagara, after a first-round bye. In their meeting earlier this season, Fairfield pulled away from Niagara with a 3-2 victory. The Stags look to make a return to the MAAC Championship finals for the first time since 2019.
 
Niagara looks to build on the momentum from its impressive 3-1 win at home against Marist in the opening round. The Purple Eagles look to even the season series in their return to Lessing Field on Thursday. A semifinal win for Niagara would give them their first MAAC Championship finals berth since 2009.
 
The 2022 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship will take place from October 30 through November 6. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, October 30, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 3, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 6.
